A [n e w] direction

If you follow me on any social media platform, you may already be aware of the changes that I recently made to my small business The Laughing Nest.

This is something that I have been praying about for some time now.

I have felt an urge in my heart to do something MORE.

I look at my life and I am so unbelievably blessed and knew that I needed to give back in some way.

I had been donating a portion of my sales to a great organization called Operation Welcome You Home. My husband and I are huge military supporters (he served in the Marines for 4 years) and we felt that was a great organization to donate to. And it has been. But something was lacking. It just didn’t feel like ENOUGH. Not that anything was wrong with the organization but I just want to be more on the front lines – ya know what I mean?

So my wheels start turning. And my husband knows by now that when my wheels start turning, well, there’s no stopping this train.

So, while we were driving around the other day I said to him, “So, I’ve been thinking…”

I know his thought is “Ohhhh Great…”

So I go through my shpeel (how the heck do you spell that word??) and I look at him and he is just so confused.

He didn’t get my concept and honestly I was still ironing out some details (still am) but then he says, “But Emily, you won’t be making ANY money.”

And I said, “I know.”

He says, “Well, you can’t do that.”

“Yes, I can.”

So we go back and forth for a while. He KNOWS that money has NEVER been an important thing to me.

And Mitch has definitely changed his view on money, too; And I know that he is just trying to be realistic. He’s the realist and I am the optimist.

We have a good balance. And he’s not a bad guy for pointing out the obvious – that I won’t be making ANY money from my ETSY shop.

But I know this: I will be making people smile. I will be sharing art and spreading kindness. And if each sale leads me and you to put a smile on a complete strangers face, well, I would say that is way more worth it to me than making a little extra cash.

So, I guess I’ve been kind of beating around the bush here. Again, if you don’t follow me on social media you still might be confused. So, in a nutshell here is what has changed – 100% of the sales from my ETSY shop for The Laughing Nest will be donated towards small acts of kindness.

It could be a gift card left on a windshield; it could be paying for someone’s lunch anonymously; I may save up the money from a few orders and try to do something BIGGER. But the point is if you buy a piece of work from my shop you should know that your money is going towards making a stranger smile and PAYING IT FORWARD. We need more smiles, more happiness and more OPTIMISM. We need to encourage one another instead of knocking each other down. Lets realize our similarities and common ground instead of pulling away because of our differences.

Let’s make a change.

Let’s share kindness and share smiles.

Let’s do this, PEOPLE!!

I am so excited for this new venture.

Thank you for your support.

SWAK,

Emily
